Clubs, DJ, and face-painting highlight the Day of Peace University Club Fair

Tomorrow will mark two weeks--two weeks until the second annual Day of Peace at Southern Connecticut State University. And while the inside of the John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts will be alive with music, dancing, discussion, and other celebrations of peace, the outside of the auditorium will be lively as well.

SCSU vets tell stories of challenges and success

"Finding Peace After Returning from War"

On the day that America pauses to give thanks to her veterans who are serving and have served, we're  proud to announce a very special addition to our Day of Peace lineup.

On Wednesday, November 28 at 1 p.m., we will sponsor a panel discussion featuring members of the SCSU Veterans Office. The Discussion will focus on "Finding Peace After Returning From War," and will feature Southern students who have served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. These extraordinary members of the SCSU community will discuss the challenges they've faced and the successes they've achieved after serving their country overseas.

We hope you'll join us on Wednesday, November 28 at 1 p.m. (Community Hour) in the lecture hall in Engleman A120 for what promises to be a fascinating discussion. And for further information on the 2012 SCSU Day of Peace, watch this space, or follow us on Facebook (SCSU Day of Peace) and Twitter (@SCSUDayofPeace).

Hmm...I guess laughter IS the best medicine...

Jay Sutay, the hardest-working pediatrician in show business.

"A day without laughter is a day wasted." --Charlie Chaplin

Never let it be said that we at SCSU would waste a day--especially when it's the 2012 Day of Peace.

We are happy to announce the latest addition to the Day of Peace line-up: stand-up comedian Dr. Jay Sutay!

Dr. Jay is not your ordinary stand-up comic. A board-certified pediatrician by day, he began performing as a college student in the 1980s. After completing medical school, Dr. Jay completed his residency in Pediatrics at Hartford Hospital and went into private practice in 1993. He was named a Pediatrics Top Doc by Connecticut Magazine in 2005, 2008, and 2009.

Still, the lure of stand-up comedy beckoned, and Dr. Jay returned to the stage in 2006. Since then, he has performed at venues throughout the northeastern U.S., including The Hartford Funny Bone, the Brew Ha Ha Comedy Club, the Comedy Studio, The Comedy Works, and the Gotham Comedy Club. This past summer, he appeared in five shows at the Comedy Room at the River Palms Casino in Laughlin, NV. Additionally, he was a finalist in the 2007 Western Mass. Valley of Laughter Comedy Festival, and a finalist in the Treehouse Comedy Club's Funniest Comic in Connecticut 2008 Contest.

So make an appointment to see Dr. Jay Sutay at the 2012 Day of Peace on November 29th at the John Lyman Center for the Performing Arts. It'll make you feel better!
